As I said in Previous Post, during Last Summer I knew I had to go into Hospital around Early September time, so during the early Summer I started to experiment with Changing the Tank Waters!

At an Earlier point I was Changing about 20% of the Water Every Week and having a good Clean-Out every 2 weeks, but with the Hospital date coming up, I started Changing the water Less and Less.

The Reason behind this was, when I came out of the Hospital, I knew I would not be able to use my Left Arm for a fairly long time, and as I have a Corner Unit Tank, which is Quite Deep, I would not be able to get my Left Arm/Hand in Tank for Cleaning.

So if I could leave my Water Changes for, say 1 Month, Hopefully my Arm would get better within a Month, and the Tank could Quickly get back to Normal!

During August I managed to leave Tank for up to about 20 Days and everything was Fine, then I Cleaned the Tank the Day Before I went into Hospital.

After a Couple of Days, I was back Home from the Hospital and the Tank seemed Alright, so I left the water Change as long as possible.

As I used to lift the Buckets of Water about 5 Feet off the Ground (to tip into the Tank) Previously, now I could not even move the Bucket off the ground!

I managed to leave  the Water Change for 24 Days this time, but when I came to Change about 25% of the Water, it had begun to Cloud Up, normally after a Water Change, any Cloudiness Disappears!

But not this Time, I have had the Cloudy Problem nearly ever since, I have Tried everything, Changing Filter Wool, Carbon, Zeo-Lite, Sponges etc etc

Apart from once, I have Never been able to get my Water “Crystal Clear” I am Changing about 50% of the Water around every 10 days or so, I know some people who only Change their water once every 3 Months and Never Hardly Clean the Mess out of the Tank, and not have this problem!

I’m wandering if my Second-User Fluval 4 is up to Scratch, I am getting a New Internal Filter for Christmas, so I will find out then!

The Tank has been Running on the Fluval 205 External Filter and an Fluval U3 Internal Filter for about 3 Weeks now, and everything was Fine, I have been Lucky so far, the Tank has only ever been Cloudy very occasionally and never stays Cloudy for long, probably 24 Hours is the Max!

So just over a 2 Weeks ago, I was Surprised to see Tank getting Cloudy one afternoon, in fact it got quite Bad by early evening, I even thought about having a Small Water Change there and then, but has time went on, it seemed to get a little bit Better, so I though it would be fine until the morning!

By the morning it was still not that clear, so Luckily I had some new Pads for my Fluval u3 Internal Filter, so I had a 20% Water Change and put in 1 new Filter Pad in, I also had a look at my Internal Filter, which was quite Clogged Up, so I decided to give half of that a Clean as well!

I turned it all back on and waited for tank to Clear!

This never Happened, it was about 80% clear to what it normally was, so on Friday I put the other Filter pad into the Internal Filter (another water change as well) by that evening it was still not Clearing Right!

So what I did do that evening was to order some new Carbon and Poly Pads from Ebay, so I could get my Fluval 4 plus Internal Filter back into the Tank, that would Clear it up!

Last Saturday was also the day I had arranged to buy some New Cichlids (from a Chap, who lived about 7 miles away, in a place called Reedham).

I did briefly think about cancelling the Fish, but had been looking forward to getting them, so that thought did not last long!

Saturday Morning the tank had cleared a bit, so I was Happy to go and get the New Fish!

I took my Grandaughter to get them, she Helps to look after the Fish on the Journey Home, she’s a Great Help!

The chap from Reedham, his name is Adam, he has a Great set-up in his Shed, there’s about 20 tanks in there, all Fry Tanks on one side and on the other side you can see all the Parent fishes, as I said a Great Breeder Set-up, this is something I would definitely like to do in the Future!

More about the Cichlids and Cloudiness, next Post!
