If you have read my Previous Two Entries concerning this Subject, you will know I have seen some Great Groups and Singers over some 30 Years!

But the one Person I would love to see in Concert is my Favorite Singer of All Time…. Al Green

Going back to late part of 2008, when my 50th Birthday was coming up, my Wife Susan asked what Special Present I would like, I had several ideas in mind and one of the Main things was to See Al Green in Concert!

So we set about looking to see if and when Al Green was coming over to the UK, and would you believe it he was already over Touring in the UK, I was too late, so me and Susan made a promise if Al Green came to the UK again in the future, We would make Sure we get to see him!

I ended up with a 47in LCD TV and a Computer, so I didn’t go without!

I have since that time always kept an Eye on any Tour dates by Al Green!

This brings me to last week, Thursday to be precise, I was looking at my page on Last FM, when I saw an Advert for a Concert date for The Temptations and The Four Tops at the O2 Arena in London!

I thought I would have a look to see what Original Members both Groups still have, I think it was 3 between them!

Any way I was on the O2 Arenas front page when an Advert popped up which featured Al Green and Michael McDonald, I couldn’t believe it!

I told Susan and the first thing she said was “Get 2 Tickets”

Another piece of Luck was, the Tickets were going on Sale the NextDay,I couldn’t wait to get them!

While waiting for Friday to come, I went on Internet to get an idea about what Price the Tickets would Cost, to my surprise some Companies were asking around £130, a chap on Ebay was asking £399!

I was at my PC at 9am last Friday morning and within 10 minutes I had 2 Tickets to see in my opinion the Greatest Soul Singer of All Time!

The Price was less than half of the first quote I saw, so we were Happy with that!

I would have preferred to have seen Al Green on his own (as we would have seen him sing more of his Songs) but Michael McDonald is a Great Singer, with “Yah Mo be There” being a Classic!

So we are counting the Days down until 26th June 2010!

I will obviously be taking a Camera and Video Camera, so look out in the future on this Blog, for some Great Photos etc!

Here’s the 28th Mix for F.S.V.B, Its been Mixed by Matthew Africa, its a Tribute to Willie Mitchell, there’s some classic Soul Tracks on here, including some Al Green, Syl Johnson, OV Wright and Ann Peebles etc etc!

The reason for this Mix, is Al Green, hopefully I will have some News concerning Al Green! Hopefully Tomorrow…………………

Firstly, my last Blog Entry (on my Life), I thought I changed Jobs before we moved!

That was wrong, after writing the last Blog Entry it got me thinking about what happened first, and an incident that happened back in 1979 reminded me of which came first!

I used to Cycle back and forth to work back then, which was a fair few miles about 4/5 each way! I must have had a Puncture in one of my Bike Tyres, I cant remember that, but can remember what happened when I was taking the mended Bike Tyre back to work to fix back on my Bike!

The Bus Stop was down in the High Street about 5 minutes from where we lived, and I can remember running along carrying the Bike Wheel , I was about 2 minutes from my House, when I passed a couple of Shops, I can remember a Woman standing there with a Nurses Uniform on (I believe there was another bus stop there, she was obviously waiting for a Bus, but this wasnt the bus stop I needed) she was waiting to go to work by Bus!

That day as I remember I had my Full Length Sheepskin Coat on, and I was running quite quickly (I must have been late for work/bus) and some how my Coat got tangled with the Bike Wheel , and Crash???? I fell over on to the Concrete Pavement right in front of this Nurse, near enough right where she stood!

I remember looking up and she was laughing her head off, I felt such a Prat, but all I could do was laugh as well, me and Susan often have a laugh about that incident, to this Day!

I Loved that Sheepskin Coat!!!!!!

Something a bit different this week, I was contacted through my Facebook Account concerning an recently released Album called Soviet Funk Volume 1

Its the first installment of instrumental funk music recorded in the Soviet Union and released by Secret Stash Records.

All of the music was produced by Pavel Sysoyev in Abakan, the capital city of Khakassia between 1971 and 1976.

This album is available now. Each LP comes with a free downloadable version of the album so you can throw it on your MP3 player!

I got my copy this week, there’s some Great Sounds on there, follow the You Tube link under this post to have a preview of some of the Tracks and a futher release called Soviet Funk Volume 2!

Between 1990 and 1995 Al Green had 3 Studio Albums out and several Greatest Hits or Complilations Albums (all on different Record Labels), the 3 Studio Albums and 2 of the Compilations are as follows:

1…1990… From My Soul… on the Arrival Label
2…1991…One in a Million…on the Sony Label
3…1992…Love is a Reality…on Word/Epic Label
4…1993…Dont Look Back…on RCA Label
5…1995…Your Hearts in Good Hands…MCA Label

Albums 1 2 & 4 were classed as Gospel Albums, but the only Album to chart in US Gospel Chart at number 29 was Album 3!!!!!!!! so you work that out!

Album 5 did chart in the US R&B Chart at number 57 though!

“From my Soul” Album had a couple of Tracks written by Arthur Baker, who 3 years later had more Success with Al Green.

“One in a Million” was a Compilation of Previous Gospel tracks!

“Love is a Reality” as I said was not a Gospel Music Album, but did chart in Gospel Charts!

“Dont look Back” had some Great Tracks, including “Best Love” Love is a Beautiful Thing ” Keep on Pushing Love” & One Love, the “Dont Look Back” track featured on Sax and Vocals “Curtis Stigers”

The Executive Producer on this album was Arthur Baker!

“Your Hearts in Good Hands” was a strange Album, it contained 10 Tracks in total with 8 Tracks coming from the previous Album ” Dont Look Back” but the Title Track “Your Hearts in Good Hands” was a Great Track!

Apart the usual “Best of’s” etc Al Green was not going to release another Studio Album (I Cant Stop) for another 8 years!

Download some Great Al Green Tracks!

I have tried hard to think of the correct dates and times around this period, but I cannot remember, firstly did we move House first or was it my new Job first! and what month did this happen!

I guessing this, but I think I changed Jobs first, which would have been around September / October of 1979, and we moved around middle to late October 1979!

But whatever the facts were, it was a busy time, not forgetting as well Susan was Pregnant!

I was working as a Butcher for Dewhurst’s, which included getting meat ready to sell and serving Customer’s!

I say “getting meat ready to sell” in my case as I was the new chap in the Shop, a couple of my main jobs were getting the Mince ready and cutting up Chicken’s into portion’s, not too taxing, as specially as I had been a Chef for about 5 years, so cutting up Meat and the Cuts of meat were quite easy!

Cutting up Steak and the better cuts of meat was down to the ” more experienced Butcher’s”, who worked in the Shop, I always found this a bit ridiculous, as I had probably cut and cooked more Meat/Joints/Steaks than most of the other workers put together!

I got on with most of the worker’s and actually eventually lived next door to one of them, about a year or to later!

I didnt like the Manager that much, a Chap called “Ernie” cant remember his last name though, I dont think he liked it because I did’nt need too much Teaching, because of my previous Job!

When we eventually moved from our One Room Accomodation to our rented Three Bedroomed House, It was Great, all that space!

We had permission to Decorate anywhere we liked, which eventually we did, from top to bottom!

Every Friday night I had to go to the Landlord’s House (it was only 5 minutes away) and pay the Rent, a grand total of £7.00 per week, but over 30 year’s ago, that was quite alot out of my wages!

See picture above, I went back to our first House (pictures are of front & back of house), it still looks the same, we actually past it at least 4 times a week, its about 2 miles from where we live now!
