In this Series of Posts, I will writing about a Particular Classic Soul/Funk Album from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s

The one’s that stand out in my Mind, as The Best Soul/Funk/Jazz/R&B Albums ever Released. All of them, I                             purchased as Vinyl many Years ago and also I have them on CD today.

You may have a Differing view (as we all do) on these Choices, but these are my Favorites!

NUMBER 6…IN FLIGHT…GEORGE BENSON

Jazz Guitarist George Benson Released his 16th Album “In Flight” in 1977, it was on Warner Brothers Records, and Produced by Tommy LiPuma, it was Recorded between August and November 1976, it also went Platinum.

The previous Album “Breezin’ was Released in 1976 and Proved to be George Benson’s First Crossover Hit, making him one of the First Jazz Musicians to Gain Mainstream Success!

The Album had some Great Musicians involved, including:

George Benson……Lead Guitar and Vocals
Phil Upchurch……..Rhythm Guitar
Ronnie Foster……..Electric Piano and Mini Moog
Jorge Dalto…………Clavinet and Acoustic Piano
Stanley Banks……..Bass
Harvey Mason……..Drums
Ralph Macdonald…Percussion

The Album featured 6 Tracks:

1…..Nature Boy…………………….5.58
2…..The Wind and I……………….5.04
3…..The World Is a Ghetto………9.41
4…..Gonna Love You More………4.37
5…..Valdez in The Country………4.29
6…..Everything Must Change…..8.07

I remember buying this Album in ’77, one thing that always sticks out in my mind, was the Birds on the Album Cover!

All the Tracks are Great, but if I had to pick One Favorite, it would have to be “Everything Must Change” The featured Piano solo is Great!

George Benson’s First Album Release was back in 1964, he was part of the “Brother Jack Macduff Quartet” the Album was called “The New Boss Guitar”

By 1966, George Benson had formed his own Quartet, and Released an Album under the name The George Benson Quartet” entitled “Its Uptown”

George Benson went on to become, One of the Biggest Jazz Crossover Musicians ever!

6 more Great Albums from ’77, all of which I purchased on Vinyl, some of which I have since sold and some are for sale on my Website.

I had 2 periods where I sold some of my Vinyl and Tapes (including Albums, 12″ and 7″ singles), I also sold quite a few Music Magazines including Blues and Soul Mags, The Street Mags and Black Echoes Papers, the first time was around 1990 and the Second Period was about 3 years ago on Ebay, I had a Shop on Ebay, but after paying them too much money, decided to get myself a Website, which is going well!

The reasons why I decided to sell my Record Collection were, in the early ’90’s we were going to try and get a Mortgage to buy a House, so all monies would come in handy, I can remember thinking about Selling for ages, before finally saying “YES” and for the last couple of Years, I now have plenty of Soul Music on CD, mp3 and of course the PC. So I thought others could benefit from all the Great Music I have Purchased!

I also think CD’s are Superior to Vinyl, but there are plenty of People who think VINYL is the BEST!

I have sold my Music All around the World including all of Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan.

I think at one time including all Vinyl Formats and Tapes I had about 3000 items, the first selling period, everything I sold I put on Tape first, and this time I have most of them burned to CD.

But of course I still buy CD’s most of the time! you get some Great bargains online! and not to mention mp3 Downloads!
